Dollar to Naira Black Market Rate Today — Monday, 3 August 2026
The naira held broadly steady against the dollar on Monday, 3 August 2026, with the United States dollar trading at ₦1,410.39 to buy and ₦1,420.15 to sell on the parallel market. A marginal uptick of just 0.06 percent against Sunday's close, signalling a quiet but watchful start to the week for Nigerians sourcing foreign exchange ahead of travel.
For travellers heading abroad this week, the gap between what the Central Bank of Nigeria sanctions and what bureaux de change and street traders are actually offering remains a painful reality. The CBN official rate sits at ₦1,368 per dollar, meaning anyone buying through the parallel window is effectively paying a premium of roughly ₦52 per dollar over the regulated benchmark. On a modest travel allowance of $2,000. Enough for a two-week trip to Europe or North America covering hotels, feeding, and incidentals that spread alone adds over ₦104,000 to a traveller's out-of-pocket cost before they even board their flight.
Sterling and euro buyers face equally firm conditions. The British pound is changing hands at ₦1,892.76 on the buy side and ₦1,917.43 on the sell side, according to today's pounds to naira parallel market figures. Travellers bound for the United Kingdom, where everyday expenses in London can run to £150 or more per day, will feel that rate acutely. Meanwhile, the euro is quoted at ₦1,590.37 to buy and ₦1,613.29 to sell, making a two-week Schengen trip a significant budgeting exercise for any Nigerian travelling to France, Germany, or Italy this summer.
At Lagos and Abuja airports, BDC operators typically price slightly above the open black market rates, reflecting the convenience premium of airport access and the tighter regulatory scrutiny those outlets operate under. Experienced travellers have long known to source at least part of their foreign currency before arriving at the terminal, using trusted city-based BDC operators where bargaining room is marginally wider and sell rates are sometimes a few naira lower than the airport counters.
